Mountain Range Imaginings
A woman admires her favorite Lawren Harris painting Mountains in Snow, Rocky Mountain Painting VII the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.
Harris painted Mountains in Snow in 1929 and based the impressive
large scale painting on a favored small oil sketch. He seems to have been enamored with the bold abstract forms and symbolic shapes he saw in the Rocky Mountain ranges. The mountain forms continued to influence Harris's work for much of his life and have become synonymous with Canadian Art.
Both Mountains in Snow and the oil sketch it was based on are part of the Thomson Collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
