"Companion to Peace"
This gentleman was having a good look at J.M.W. Turner's painting War, The Exile and the Rock Limpet at the Art Gallery of Ontario's exhibition J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free. Turner's painting depicts Napoleon in exile on the island of St Helena. Turner said that the sunset in the painting represented the trauma of battle following the Napoleonic Wars and described the red in the painting as a "sea of blood".
I saw this painting at the AGO where I sketched out the idea for this scene.
