"Abstraction Distraction"
A young woman at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York stares up at Pablo Picasso's 1934 painting Reading at a Table. In the painting, Picasso's lover Marie-Thérèse Walter sits reading a book in a darkened room with the glow of a lamp giving her an ethereal presence. During WWII, the British owner of the painting took the precaution of having the painting shipped across the Atlantic and stored at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
